Lucid and Envac Australia have been collaborating with SunCentral Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast Council for the implementation of an Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS) in the Maroochydore City Centre Project. The development project will transform a 53-hectare former golf course site in Maroochydore into a new and expanded central business district and will incorporate the AWCS system as a technological and environmentally friendly innovation for central city waste collection. Lucid are working with Hames Sharley, Wallbridge and Gilbert and Resonate Acoustics in the delivery of professional services.
The AWCS is to provide inlets in the public realm and private commercial building developments for removal of general waste, organic waste and recyclables. The three waste streams are transported underground via a vacuum in a pipe network to a central Collection Station for storage and removal from the precinct. Key benefits of the system include:
- Waste management becomes a utility, removing garbage trucks from city streets that are traditionally required for waste removal.
- Waste is removed within 24 hours, preventing the unsightly and odorous build-up of waste associated with garbage bins.
The AWCS media announcement was conducted on Wednesday 21st September 2016 with Lucid in attendance, achieving national media coverage through the ABC, The Australian, The Brisbane Times as well as various other Fairfax and News Corporation newspapers and television coverage.
