WRAP Apartments, Melbourne - Dee Casa Restaurant

  • Baracon engaged Lucid to assess and provide options for lighting the ground floor space and create a dark and mysterious atmosphere.

  • The areas assessed were on the ground floor of a multi-residential apartment complex. The ground floor areas were to be primarily used as bar areas, with the bar being open to the public at night, and residential tenant circulation.

  • During the day the areas could be used as relaxation areas, with the front bar being converted into a function area for conferences and the like.

  • The Developer identified the entry spine as a key feature which required to be considered separately as a means to attract people off the street. As a result the spine was illuminated with highly focused cool white LED uplights, which were used during the week, and interactive projectors on Friday nights and weekends to attract people inside. The spine also had a LED strip at the base to generate the illusion of another level below.

  • The proposed lighting solution used LED’s throughout comprising of:

- Low glare LED downlights with black trim’s to provide a darker atmosphere whilst still retaining adequate light levels.
- Carefully positioned LED downlights to provide contrasting effects on columns and walls.
- DALI gateways and dimming control to allow flexibility in providing light levels to suit multiple uses.
- Recessed LED downlights within the perimeter bulkhead to ‘wash’ the walls, and create a feature out of the columns.

  • Lucid’s modelling assisted to:

- Showed the effectiveness and versatility in the use of LED lighting.
- Provided a visual representation of the proposed lighting arrangement, and proposed switching zones.
- Provide a solution that will reduce ongoing costs attributed to lamp replacement and energy consumption.
- Decrease carbon footprint.
- Enable the project stakeholders to visualise the space prior to committing to an end solution.
- Provide a visual representation of the lighting proposed, which enabled for more accurate positioning of the luminaires.
- Illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution, to meet the scope.
