For ten consecutive years (2008–2018), Lucid partnered with iEDM to engineer key technical services for the iconic Adelaide 500 motorsport event, formally known as the Clipsal 500.

Responsibilities spanned event planning, installation, weekend operations, and dismantling — with our specialists managing the entire infrastructure lifecycle to ensure flawless performance.

The challenge

Delivering an event of this scale — each year, with unique layouts and installations — required:

Temporary power, lighting, AV, and fire systems adapted to changing event zones
Compliance with evolving safety regulations and standards
Real-time problem solving under high-pressure, live-event timelines

Yet each year, Lucid enabled top-tier performance infrastructure while maintaining access, flow, and safety for competitors, spectators, and stakeholders.

Our Approach

From 2014 onwards, our approach combined detailed design, dynamic on-site oversight, and stakeholder coordination:

Managed service infrastructure: power generation (80+ generators), lighting, AV, hydraulics, and fire protection
Full-time, on-ground engineers supervising construction, testing, operations, and teardown
Rapid response and advisory capacity, offering technical guidance for contractors, and certified compliance oversight with SA Motorsport and relevant authorities

Solutions delivered

Design and deployment of temporary power distribution and lighting systems tailored to each event zone
Audio-visual infrastructure supporting grandstand displays, commentary, and broadcasting
Fire safety design, lightning protection, and life safety compliance certification
Supervision of services installation, testing, and commissioning
Technical advisement for contractors, including audits, permit coordination, and responsive fixes
