We’re all about our people

Collaboration. The difference
between success and failure.

Our story
and history

Lucid started in Adelaide with a simple belief: we could do things better. Not by being the biggest – but by being the most thoughtful, responsive, and grounded partner to our clients.

Today, we’re a team of 350+ people across Australia, united by a drive to turn complexity into clarity. Along the way, our people have opened new offices, led national projects, and grown from graduates to leaders – shaping Lucid’s journey as they shaped their own.

  • 2000: A Different Kind of Beginning

Lucid was founded in Adelaide by Bruce Hatwell with a clear ambition: to do it better. We saw a different way – where engineering could be more agile, more personal and more considered. From day one, we focused on relationships, knowing that stronger connections lead to better outcomes.

  • 2010: Ownership beyond our founders

As Lucid grew, we opened the door to employee ownership – giving our people a direct stake in our future. This defining shift built long-term thinking and shared responsibility into how we work.

  • 2010: Adventure into new territory

We opened our Darwin office to better support clients in the Northern Territory. This marked our commitment to growing a national business with local capability, serving regional communities on their terms.

  • 2016: Lucid Academy launches

We didn’t wait for the industry to catch up – we built our own graduate development network. Lucid Academy gives early-career professionals the tools, confidence and community to lead from the start.

  • 2018: A truly national team

With offices across every mainland region, we shifted to a OneLucid model – connecting industry and capability leads across borders. The result? More agile, integrated support for our clients, wherever they are.

  • 2019: Advisory capability formalised

We know good decisions start early. So we formalised our Advisory offering: expanding how we support clients – from asset strategy to energy transition – with clear, informed guidance from the start.

  • 2022: 50+ employee owners

More than 50 Lucid people became shareholders – a milestone that speaks to our culture of ownership, momentum and investment in long-term success.

  • 2023: A better world in action

We formalised our commitment to sustainability, equity, and reconciliation – becoming carbon neutral, publishing our Reflect RAP, and launching our first Gender Equity Action Plan.

  • 2024: Learning transformed

We launched a national Learning & Development framework and approach – providing structured pathways, on-demand tools, and leadership development at every career stage.

Engineers. Advisors. Designers. Specialists. Lucid is home to a diverse team who think expansively and deliver practically. Many of our senior leaders built their careers here. Others have brought deep experience from across the industry. As we’ve grown, we’ve continued to welcome new perspectives and expertise. It’s not just what we know, it’s how we work: approachable, collaborative and invested in outcomes that hold up in the real world.

Support from day one

Starting strong matters. That’s why our buddy and mentor programs are built into every new starter’s journey. They offer early guidance, real connection and help people feel supported – not just onboarded.

Careers with momentum

At Lucid, careers don’t follow a template. We back our people to think big, shape their own direction, and step into challenges – supported by a team invested in their growth. Many of our leaders started here as grads and continue to help guide the next generation.

Culture that connects

Whether it’s run club, paint-and-sip night, shared lunch or a movie, our social clubs build the connections that make work more human. They’re volunteer-run, locally shaped, and open to all – making it easier to find your people, not just your project team.

A Better World, Together

Culture at Lucid isn’t just internal – it’s how we engage with the world. From R U OK? Day to NAIDOC Week, our national events create space for conversation, reflection and shared purpose. They’re one way we bring our values to life – and keep our commitment to creating a better world front of mind.

Women@Lucid

Women@Lucid is an employee-led network amplifying women’s voices across our business. It plays a key role in advancing Lucid’s broader Gender Equity commitment and supports our Gender Equity Action Plan.

Through national gatherings, guest speakers, and open conversations, Women@Lucid helps shape an inclusive workplace where women thrive, from graduates to directors.

Led by passionate team members and backed by leadership, the initiative makes sure equity is reflected in our actions not just in our words. It’s one way we’re building a better, fairer future, together.
