Lucid partnered with CME Group to upgrade the sports lighting infrastructure at Adelaide Oval — one of the world’s most recognisable stadiums. This project replaced legacy metal halide lighting with a high-performance LED system, along with new control systems and thematic lighting on the light towers. The new installation ensures the venue now meets — and exceeds — the lighting standards for AFL, International Cricket, Rugby and FIFA events.

The challenge

The brief was more than a technical upgrade — it was about preserving the Oval’s prestige while delivering precision lighting that supports elite sport and immersive fan experiences. The team needed to ensure:

Seamless integration of advanced lighting technology into a live, high-profile venue
Compliance with rigorous international broadcast and player visibility standards
Disruption-free delivery ahead of the 2023–24 Big Bash and international cricket season

Lucid led the detailed electrical engineering scope, developing:

Full construction design documentation
Discrimination and earthing studies to ensure system safety and compliance
Engineering risk assessments and advisory to manage stadium infrastructure complexity
Communications backbone review and technical sign-off support

We also undertook secondary inspections to validate the installation and ensure system integrity prior to handover.
