Smarter, Safer Correctional Facilities

Queensland Correctional Services

Queensland Correctional Services

Partnering with justice and corrections agencies to unlock better infrastructure insights and enable long-term planning

Client: Queensland Correctional Services, Department of Youth Justice QLD, NT Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

Location: QLD, NT / Various Traditional Owner Countries

The challenge

Australia’s justice and correctional agencies manage vast, complex portfolios of secure facilities — many of which operate under strict access, security, and operational constraints. In Queensland and the Northern Territory, government clients needed expert partners to help modernise their asset management systems, provide clear insights into risk and asset condition, and improve lifecycle decision-making.

This work needed to be accurate, efficient, and highly adaptable — with outcomes that support funding bids, policy direction, and frontline operations.

Our Approach

Lucid delivered multiple interlinked projects across Queensland and the NT, including:

  • Condition Assessments and Lifecycle Planning across 14 Queensland correctional facilities — requiring coordinated site access, drone inspections, and parallel site teams to meet compressed timeframes.
  • Digital Asset Management Services (DAMS) — developing Power BI dashboards to visualise data from 14 QCS sites, providing a secure, intuitive platform to manage thousands of assets, images, and documents.
  • Youth Justice Facility Audits — capturing detailed asset condition and risk profiles across three youth detention centres, using iPads and drone data to streamline inspections.
  • Strategic Asset Management Plans — co-developed with QLD’s Department of Youth Justice to align infrastructure decisions with long-term strategic goals.
  • NT Government Pilot Program — applying ISO 55001-compliant processes to assess critical assets in correctional, education, emergency, and health facilities, including Alice Springs Correctional Centre.

Across all projects, Lucid combined deep technical expertise with practical planning, collaborative engagement, and an agile delivery mindset.
