Women’s & Children’s Hospital Clinical Sustainment

Upgrading critical infrastructure to support safe, continuous care

Client: Women’s & Children’s Hospital

Location: Adelaide, SA / Kaurna Country

The challenge

With plans for the new Women’s & Children’s Hospital underway, SA Health required strategic upgrades to the existing hospital to ensure continuity of safe, high-quality care in the years leading up to transition.

Lucid was engaged to assess the condition and capacity of existing infrastructure and deliver staged upgrades across key clinical areas — all within a live, highly sensitive healthcare environment. The challenge was clear: deliver significant improvements with minimal disruption to patients, families, and staff.

Our Approach

We began with a holistic review of the hospital’s essential services infrastructure — evaluating system resilience, identifying risks, and prioritising upgrades based on criticality and compliance. Our team collaborated closely with WCH staff, clinical stakeholders, and project partners to co-design upgrades that aligned with current standards and operational realities.

For the refurbishment of clinical spaces such as the Paediatric Emergency Department and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we applied detailed staging strategies and rigorous infection control planning. Our approach ensured each phase was safe, efficient, and clinically viable — without interrupting service delivery.
