University of Melbourne – Buxton Contemporary Art Gallery
The Michael Buxton Centre of Contemporary Art was a collaborative project between the University of Melbourne, Michael Buxton and Arts Victoria.
The construction of the gallery, located within the University of Melbourne’s Southbank Campus, involved refurbishment and extension of the existing heritage listed site on the corner of Southbank Boulevard and Dodds Street, Southbank.
The new purpose-built art gallery is part of a generous $26M donation from Michael Buxton – a property developer and passionate art collector. Mr Buxton had chosen to donate his private contemporary Australian art collection to the University of Melbourne and will use the new art gallery to house and showcase his collection to students, researchers and the general public.
Lucid completed the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire services consulting for the class AA Art Gallery which incorporates function areas and administration facilities.
