Queen Adelaide Room – Lighting Upgrade
Lucid was engaged to provide specialist lighting design and engineering to the heritage listed Queen Adelaide Room located within the Adelaide Town Hall.
The Queen Adelaide Room underwent extensive modification to return the room to Colinel Light’s vision of the space with an architectural emphasis on its heritage.
The works included the following:
- New columns / capitals.
- New cornices and skirtings.
- Removal of doors and the creation of new openings.
- Retaining the feature chandeliers including relamping with LED technology.
- New lighting and control to meet a multi-function environment.
The room originally contained lighting via chandeliers only, which were inadequate for functions and presentations occurring within the room. The lighting design brief was to provide up-lighting and flexible down-lighting to illuminate walls and objects. The solution was to illuminate the large ornate cornice and provide adjustable 360 degree down-lights to the walls, art and floor objects in a flexible arrangement.
The project won an Award of Excellence (International) in the 2018 IES Lighting Design Awards.
