The Parks Community Centre Redevelopment

The Parks Community Centre redevelopment delivered a major public aquatic facility and multi-use community centre.

The centre incorporates a number of buildings spread over the site including a 25m lap pool, rehabilitation pool, children’s pool / splash pad, indoor courts, community areas, fitness centre and café. Lucid was engaged as part of the design team acting on behalf of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.

A key energy efficiency strategy involved the re-use of waste heat from the cooling plant to heat the pool. This solution, coupled with the diverse load profile associated with the “mixed use” nature of the complex, facilitated the use of a central / “district” thermal solution, enabling the entire system to be optimised for site cooling demand and achieving an ideal balance between capital investment and ongoing operational savings.

During minimal building cooling conditions the waste heat generated is sufficient to negate the requirement to operate the gas fired pool heating system, delivering significant reductions in overall energy consumption and emissions associated with the entire site.

Lucid completed the electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and fire engineering services for the $25M development.
